I was in between jobs, newly married and dreading the thought of yet another unfulfilling desk job. I knew I was made to do something else but I had no idea what that was. I spotted a flower pot on our tiny back porch. It was filled with cobwebs and next to it, sat a couple cans of leftover house paint. I grabbed that pot and periwinkle paint and unleashed on it all the creative energy I had pent up inside me. Something came alive in me that day. And I began attacking other pots with paint. And then picture frames... and so it began. Art & Soul began that day with a flower pot in 2000. For years I created on the side and as I was able. In 2007, I learned about etsy and the rest is history.
I like to look back and see how God prepared me for this creative journey. I am not a trained artist, I never dreamed I would be an artist, actually. It took me years to realize that God had placed in me a creative spirit that is a reflection of His own creative nature. It's in us all actually - but in some of us, that creative spirit manifest itself differently.
Even those years behind a desk in jobs I "hated" taught me valuable lessons about organization and administration that prepared me to own the business you see before you now. God is faithful. He is good. He loves us and He cares about the deep desires of our hearts. Psalm 37:4 say, "Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.." My life is a testimony to that truth in so many ways.
I'm thankful to God, first and foremost, for this creative and fulfilling life. I am thankful to my husband for his tireless support and to my two beautiful boys.
